Now known as The New Orleans Hornets, this team was founded in 1988 as the Charlotte Hornets (1988-2002). A playoff team, the Hornets emerged with guard Kelly Tripucka, Charlotte’s top scorer for the franchise’s first two seasons, sharpshooting rookie Rex Chapman, guard Kendall Gill and power forward Larry Johnson from UNLV.
